Train kills man near Torresdale Station

An Amtrak train carrying 30 passengers struck and killed a man near Torresdale Station on the day after Thanksgiving in an apparent case of suicide.

The tragedy happened at about 8 a.m. and involved the Acela Express service from Washington, D.C., to Boston, Amtrak said. According to police, a 61-year-old man jumped in front of the northbound train as it sped through the station on its way to Trenton. He was killed instantly. Authorities did not release his name. No passengers or crew were injured.

The train was not scheduled to stop at Torresdale. All four Northeast Corridor tracks were closed for about a half-hour. Two tracks reopened at about 8:30. Full service was restored at 10:51 a.m. ••
